Artist Statement and Professional Experience –

I seek ways of self- organization through my craft and art shifting away from a desire to know and control, and toward a desire to relate and understand. I relate to the physical world in an alchemical way, which is a framework concerned with the relationship, space or field between objects.

I hope that my love of the material translates in my metal work. I love the fact that I am working with elements such as minerals and fire and that it moves and bends and transforms sometimes from solid to liquid and that there is always an element of risk. My art is medium specific, identified with metal and metalsmithing and made by hand.

Kathleen Carricaburu has a BFA from the University of Utah in painting and drawing and graphic design and received an MFA in metal smithing/jewelry from New Mexico State University, December 2010. Her studies in metal also include three years of advanced small metals at the University of Utah and studies at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. She has exhibited her metal work and painting with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, Salt Lake Art Center, Finch Lane Gallery, Coda Gallery, Alpine Art, Sundance Gallery and Las Cruces Museum of Art .
